Campaign Spotlights

350 Seattle Healthy Through Heat and Smoke Campaign:

350 Seattle led a coalition of labor partners and BIPOC led community groups to win the “Healthy through Heat and Smoke Campaign.” The Green New Deal inspired campaign passed a parks levy package that will fund converting half of Seattle’s Park community centers into climate resilience hubs that can open as cool and clean air shelters during heat and smoke events and run entirely on clean energy. The win is a result of months of grassroots organizing and includes labor agreements that create a pathway for residents into green jobs and the building trades. Wildfire smoke and deadly heat waves, like the 2021 heat dome described by King County Health Officer Dr. Jeffrey Duchin as a “climate related mass casualty event,” causes disproportionate harm to frontline communities.

Minnesota 350 Just Transition Campaign:

Minnesota 350 won approval of $13M funding from the State Legislature for school districts to buy and maintain electric school buses and charging infrastructure in 2023. In Minneapolis, MN350 won a people-centered Climate Equity Plan, which commits $10M to fund climate initiatives and good green jobs, and transit justice victories such as a free fare pilot program and 0.75% metro-wide sales tax to support and expand our bus and rail network.

350 New Hampshire No Coal No Gas Campaigns:

350 New Hampshire won a campaign to stop the construction of a 2 Billion cubic ft LNG storage tank and pipeline expansion project by building statewide public opposition and organizing impacted community members to take a stand. 350 New Hampshire and partners in the No Coal No Gas Campaign won a five year grassroots campaign to shut down the last coal fired power plant in New England, in Bow, NH. The coal plant officially announced plans to transition into a renewable energy park in 2024.

End the Era of Fossil Fuels:

The 350 Net Council led a national day of action to build pressure on the Biden administration to end the era of fossil fuels in 2023. We joined forces with the People vs. Fossil Fuels coalition to host 69 actions in more than two dozen states. The 350NC worked with 70 partner organizations on this mobilization and generated 35 press hits. Building on the success of actions at home, 350 affiliates brought 1,000 people to the Climate March in NYC and led a team of our organizers from around the country to take direct action at the Federal Reserve Bank.
